Last week I completed the first four pages of my paper which talked about the history and ambiguous definition of reality television. This week I am planning on revising it to meet the comments of my adviser. I will also be working on a power point presentation which will explain my project within a twenty minute time restraint to the class. I will also have to do about 5 minutes of Q and A's to practice for my actual presentation of my paper to a board of teachers in January.
Last week I was able to finish my 5 page outline which will be used as a reference for writing my final paper. I now feel like I have a solid grasp on both the organization and content of my paper. This week I will work on finalizing my research and refining my outline with the corrections my advisor gave me.
Over the weekend I finished reading the bulk of my research. I have also started to write the outline for my paper. I have decided that I will be examining different physiological aspects of reality shows show as the group and environmental influences rather than making an argument.
This week I went to Mckeldin Library at the University of Maryland College Park to look for scholarly books for my research. I was able to find two really good sources one about Reality TV and one on a psychology topic. My first book is called Understanding Reality Television by Su Holmes and Deborah Jermyn and my second is called Personality and Social Behavior by Frederick Rhodewalt. This week I'm planning on reading the specific sections of the book I decided to photocopy, which will hopefully help better focus my other research.
I did not get around to doing much research this past weekend because I had the unfortunate experience of getting a root canal. Nonetheless, I have also been in the process of focusing my paper on a certain category of reality television shows (since there is so many shows to choose from) and have not yet officially decided. This week I will hopefully finalize my SIP topic and read some more articles.
Thus far in my research I have focused my time on the casting process of reality TV shows and background information on Reality TV in general. I have read "Casting Crashes in on reality TV shows" by Kate Macarthur and "Reality TV" by Breyer. Soon I will begin to connect my research to psychology principles and see how they overlap.
